Tuesday May 8

Just finished another tech week - I'm dressing on this show - despite having nine characters cut from the script its still a bit manic dealing with all the quick changes, especially as they include wig changes as well.

At home have done some more work on the latest Titania, skirts are now finished, 6 layers of chiffon pleated on to a calico base, with pleated dress net inside to hold the shape.  Still have to work out how to finish the hems, want a ragged effect but without too much fraying...  Next thing is to cut out and construct the bodice sections, which will then be embroidered.

Tuesday April 10

Its been a long time...
I've been doing my new job for three months now (its flown by) and in that time have worked on three productions, just about to start the fourth.  I have altered costumes, shopped for costumes, made costumes from scratch, helped hire, fit and wash costumes, learnt how to dress wigs and put up hair and dressed actors during performances - its great!

Wednesday January 4

Its been a while - now that all the Christmas making is done and delivered I have time to create costumes again.
I have started today on another Titania - this one is a more traditional fairy type, floaty and ethereal.  I cut out the basic bodice in calico for strength and also in a lining fabric.  I have stitched up the calico bodice, leaving the left side open for a zip and cut some rigelene ready to sew on.  There will also be a top layer to the bodice, which I can't cut until the skirts are attached as it has to have an uneven hem but still needs to conceal the calico bodice.
Also next Monday I start work as Wardrobe Assistant at a producing theatre, so expect weekly updates about what I get up to there.

Friday November 25

Last day on panto today making a floppy bow for the cat for walkdown, quite good cos I had to fathom out how to make it as well as actually making it.
Watched dress rehearsal this afternoon, good to see all the costumes in action...

Here are some pictures of things I worked on -
This is the dream sequence tunic I did all the hand finishing on.

Buttons I sewed on the fairy's cuff.

More soon...

Thursday November 24

Been a busy few days, with a couple of late nights.
Tuesday I finished off the dream sequence tunic - stitched the lining in round the armholes and hem, stab stitched the lining in the bottom of the sleeves and under the collar to stop it dropping, stitched on 10 poppas and 5 hooks and bars and 10 buttons - only took ten hours!
Wednesday was back to bits and pieces - decorated a couple of hats for walkdown amongst other things that gradually come up as tech rehearsal goes  on.  Later on helped with dressing the chorus and quick changes as it was their first rehearsal in costume.
Today we worked through all the alterations and finishing off bits generated by the chorus wearing costume last night, so elastic on rat ears and masks, attaching neckerchiefs to villager dresses and sewing up overskirts.  Also found time this afternoon to have a go on an industrial sewing machine, need practice...

Monday November 21

Today was the first day of tech week... first night is on Saturday!
Another day of doing odd bits and pieces.
The rest of the rat neckerchiefs had to be altered so they are quick and easy to put on, made two sleeves and lining for a tunic for a dream sequence and fetched some hanging rails from the store.
